THE BORSINGER CHRONIK

Verena (das,509),and perhaps another brother was Ueli Borsinger, the butcher, who on April 5,1568, because he broke the piece for the third time by throwing a fellow out of the house, was punished in that fashion by swearing to stay out of the town for one year and then only by paying 50 lb Haller fine could return, and at no time was allowed to drink wine outside of his house (das 558) Jakob Borsinger, the owner of the Schadenmill came to office and to honor and is being named quiet frequently (RM VI 641,655, 701,750,VII 1601 Nov. 23,1605,Nov. 23,1605,March 9,1608,March 14, VIII 79).His oldest son anyhow is Hans Borsinger the innkeeper of the RED DEER (Hirzen) in Ennetbaden (1606 May 9,RM VII) who’s birth falls prior to the listing of children in the family baptismal book. His son, Melchior M.D (Medical doctor or “Magistratus domini”?) became Mayor in troubled times, was Mayor of the town on alternate years was representative of Baden at the meetings of he Swiss Confederacy, ambassador to Pope Inocent X, head of the movement for the rebuilding of the castle Stein and the city’s fortification . He died May 19,1665 “in high esteem and a well educated magistrate, with the Honorary title “Father of the fatherland” (Fricker 658). With his granddaughters this line died out. (RM Jan, 13, 1627,XIII 583.X27,96,535,Lib stat Urk.1237 Rueck). From Jakobs second son, Hans Ulrich owner of the Schadenmill, originates under others a Hans Heinrich Borsinger, a leader in the “Farmers-War” of 1653(Fricker 137) A third son Andreas had difficult quarrels with his mother in law, he took the Schadenmill over and left a large offspring of which Peter became the next owner of the Schadenmill (Fricker 298,541, RM X 55) in addition he owned the house to the RAVEN (Sept. 23,1644,RM XI 66) the town council did not permit him to sell the Schadenmill. (Aug.30.1652 RMXII l26,565) His son Ludwig inherited it, and in return sold house and home of the RED OX to Franz Keller, pewterer (March 17,1665 and May 5,RMXIV 81,92) The mill burned down(Oct,16,1676) and Ludi Keller to the OX had to sell his house because of his debts, when Hans Ludwig Borsinger obtained by fighting against Jakob Wiederkehr the draught right but then settled with him. His son Fridolin, on May 1681 bought the UPPER MILL. And this was the end of the Borsingers being millers, as it was an inherited trade. It did start with Niklaus, son of Klaus 1489 who had a mill on the “Jonen”- brook in Rifferswil (to my knowledge) then had a mill on the Reuss river in Bremgarten (1516-1519) This mill went to his son Rudolf who bought the Schadenmill in Baden for his son Ulrich in 1549 and we have almost 300 years and 10 Borsinger in 9 generations in the miller trade beside three paper millers in Bremgarten and Rotzloch N.W. Hans Ludwig or Johann Ludwig 1637-1686 was the last owner of the Schadenmuehle which burned down in 1678,his son bought the upper mill but then his grandson was clerk of the court, his son innkeeper of the BLUME and with his successors came VERENAHOF and LIMMATHOF into the family and the Borsinger stayed in the Hotel Business from 1800 to 1972, when Maria Kuhn -Borsinger sold the Blume.
