ELISE Borsinger _ Hanauer, born June 2,1855 and died Jan.21,1928.The family of the Hanauer, according to there geneological tree, goes back in Baden to the year 1460. For 300 years they were coppersmits. The branch.however, died out with her brother Wilhelms daughter Elisabeth who married an Aschar. Elise was the daughter of Franz Anton Hanauer and his second wife Franciska Juliana Diebold (June 16,1823 to Nov.3,1898,born in Baden and died at the Schoeneck of apoplexy). Going back in the history one can find an Elisabeth Borsinger 1619-1668 the wife of Malchir Hanauer (1616-1690). Their successors died out soon. In 1869 she was sent to Paris to the Institut Notre Dame de Sion and when in 1870 the German-French war broke out she fled with the sisters to their Institut in London from where, 6 month later, she returned home. She then took some courses in domestic and during the hotel saison was sent to Engelberg, where she learned to cook at the Cattani’s Hotel Titlis, and it was there where it was arranged to meet Carl. When she first was told of the arrival of her suitor, she became so excited that she put the elbow maccaroni’s into the fryingpan before boiling them first! The wedding took place on Jan.12,1874 after which her husband first had to go for his basic training into the military. In 1886 her daughter Lineli died of diphtheria and according to one version,Elise then made a vowe to St Mother Anna to built the Chapel at the Schoeneck in her memory, according to another version she made the vowe after her personal severe illness. In 1896 after her husband left, on Oct.6. the Schoeneck was incorporqted into a family corporation. Mrs.Elise Borsinger made a vowe to Saint Mother Anna to erect a chapel at the Schoeneck in her honor. 1896 after her husband left, the Hotel was incorporated into a Family Corporation Continehere. The president of the Board and director was Franz Joseph Borsinger Rohn followed by Mr.Kugler Borsinger and uncle Wilhem Hanauer (with 6o ooo Fr. participation in the Corp

I vividly remember her, our “Ammamma”, when I was at the Schoeneck on vacation in about 1925. She then was senile, called Dementia Senilis, today we probably would call it Alzheimer. I was to watch after her, when she told me “I have to go to the chapel!” and insisted and I did not know what to do. At that time I remember being in church with her up in the choir section, where the organ had to be hand pumped and she and aunt Anna was singing in the choir. She must have had a lovely voice when young, always singing in church with her daughters on the organ. She also was the founder and president of the vomen’ organisation in Emmetten. We went up to the Schoeneck for her funeral, we saw her layed out on her bed and then at night in a candlelight procession throught the snow we followed her to the Chapel where she layed in state, and the next day the burial took place in Emmetten. She had been good to the church, the priests and the people. My father always said:” We do not have to contribut, she has given enough for all of us!” She must have been a good businesswoman, although very liberal, her children were always given vine at the table, but she, beeing to busy, they had no mother!
