These are the middle class (Buergerliche) bathing establishments to the “Bear”, to the “Ox”,to the “Raven” to the “Flour(Blume)”, to the “Sun” and to the “Key”. 1388 When six Federal Units (Panner) of troops stood before the town of

HISTORY OF THE BLUME

1421 The Hotel Blume is documented for the first time, his owner was Bernard Doerflinger. 1445 On Jan.6, during the Zuerich-War, the “Great Bath” were plundered by the Zuercher troops and in May they were burned down. 1453 The Hospital Chaplain Johann Markward made a bequest with an anual tribut of 1 rh.Gl. to the Bath- Inn of the Blume with the special designation, it should take out of it, a “Muett Kernen” (measure of kernels) for the priests of the brotherhood (“Lieb Frauen”?), and what’s left over should be given to the brotherhood . There were two other anual stipends for the “Blume” with an income of 1 rh.Gl. each. These servitudes later on were terminated as for example the one anual donation for the “Blume” of 100 Gl. in 1770. 1526 Country squire, Gotthard von Landenberg in 1526 gave to“all kind of maidens” which went in and out of the “Blume” all kind of jewelrys; he was killed by the innkeeper in a fight, probably because of his bad behavior.

In the 16 th CENTURY: The big bath-establishments had the appearence of a small town, enclosed to form a complete unit, into which you could enter through three gates. This fortified enclosure was to secure the “Thermal Baths”, which were destroyed by the many wars of earlier centuries, from further devastation.(Fricker P.438) The Blume at that time had 3 bath. 1642 Bad unchastity was carried on in these days between the daughter of the inkeeper of the Blume and the Lieutenant Colonel Holzapfel. The City Council ordered the former one to stay home at night or face unavoidable punishment by imprisonement in the Tower. Holzapfel was expelled from the town and he was forbidden, in case he later should return to Baden, to stay at the Blume or, in general not to loge at the Bath Hotels at all.”To the old and the young “in the Blume it was ordered by the punishment ot the tower, never again to accommodate Holzapfel, and in case the “young one” should run after him,not to let her get back into the town.” 10 month later, however, Holzapfel was again caugh in the Blume and was given a fine of 50 pfd. and if he should be caugh again , he could be fined 100 Crowns. The daughter and her mother and the son in law were ordered before the court and punished according to what they deserved, the daughter was banished out of the town for two years.
